FIELD CHARACTERS
What to look for
A dark emerald dragonfly. Wing venation and close views are more useful than colour alone.
A useful observation
Watch sheltered water edges and open flight paths. Juveniles develop in freshwater.
Identification limits
Museum or project referenceCompare similar emerald dragonflies; flight photographs alone often do not resolve a species.
These introductory notes and broad habitat associations do not replace a species key.
